Community Connect Winners

A huge congratulations to the three causes and charities who won Scotmid’s Community Connect funding, sharing £9000 equally among them.

The three winners were:
Team Evie based in the North East and Cumbria
Stanhope Silver Prize Band based in County Durham
Northern Butterflies based in Northumberland.

Greg Johnston, CEO at Team Evie, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support we recieved from Scotmid and their wonderful members. We work really hard at Team Evie to support sick children and their families across our region, but the realist is without support from brilliant people and businesses like Scotmid we wouldn’t be able to help as many families as we do!

Being able to continue to provide our packs to families in the Special Care Baby Unity across our region is something that will make a huge difference to so many families at their time of need.”

Scotmid’s Community Connect funding was launching in 2017. Since then more than £385,00 has been awarded to 39 good cause groups in local areas. In normal times, Scotmid would typically select a shortlist of community projects which members then vote on to allocate different amounts of funding. However, due to the pandemic, the Scotmid board agreed that all shortlisted charities and community groups would recieve equal amounts of funding within each region.

Harry Cairney, President of Scotmid, said: “The pandemic has created numerous challenges for communities to overcome and adapt to. Community Connect is one of the main ways we can support the communities that we serve and we are delighted to provide Team Evie with funding as it continues to provide vital support to the Cumbria community.”
