Swimming Pool Community Grant Makes a Splash in Shap

Shap swimming pool has received a community grant of £440 from Lakes & Dales co-operative to purchase four sets of new lockers for its changing rooms, as part of an ongoing project to modernise the pool’s facilities.

Julie Hunter, Swimming Pool Committee Member, said: “We’d like to give a huge thanks to Scotmid for their kind donation of £440 towards the cost of new lockers. The pool is incredibly expensive to run, so donations like these help us to buy things we would not normally be able to afford.  These will be a valuable addition to the pool as it opens for the 2015 season.“

Katie Kipling, Lakes & Dales co-operative Membership and Community Officer, said: “The swimming pool, which is run by volunteers, is a hub for many in the village, including Shap Primary School. It is a great asset to the area and we are delighted to be able to support it in this way.”

The 16.5 metre swimming pool opened in 1987 and is the highest heated open air swimming pool in England. The facilities include a baby pool, qualified lifeguard and visitors are welcome to enjoy the surrounding picnic areas.

The pool’s season kicked off on Saturday 23 May and it will remain open until the end of August.
