Customers shopping at Lakes & Dales Co-operative stores have been making a difference when choosing to buy locally sourced ‘Laid With Love’ free range eggs. Recent sales in our stores have raised £300 which is being donated to Cancer Research UK.
Developed by the Lakes Free Range Egg Company at Stainton, the Laid With Love brand donates 2p per dozen eggs sold to support cancer research. As Lakes & Dales Co-operative is an advocate of local brands, we have been working with the Lakes Free Range Egg Company since it introduced the Laid With Love brand, with Henrietta the brand mascot featuring as a window display on several occasions.
Katie Kipling, Membership & Community Officer for Lakes & Dales Co-operative, said “Cooperation with local suppliers has many advantages; it means we are sourcing from our own community and we know the provenance of our food. Laid With Love free range eggs are produced on small, local family run farms with the highest ethical, welfare and environmental standards. The fact that the brand supports a great charitable cause is an added bonus our customers appreciate.”
Each egg carries a unique code so customers can check the provenance themselves, tapping the code into the Laid with Love website, customers can trace their eggs back to the farm on which they were laid.
The hens are fed on an enriched diet that includes Lutein (a Marigold extract), a natural anti-oxidant that also makes the yolks an extra rich colour. Research has indicated positive health benefits of Lutein – fighting everything from cancer prevention to eyesight problems and aging.
David Brass, Chief Executive at the Lakes Free Range Egg Company, said “Our Laid With Love brand has the right ingredients; hens have lots of room to roam, they are fed a very natural diet, their eggs are packed in bright pink recycled boxes and we donate money to cancer research for every pack sold.
