Sarah Hayton steps out for Keswick Flood Appeal

A Lakes & Dales Co-operative store assistant has taken to the road to raise money to help Keswick and Cockermouth flood victims. Sarah Hayton lives in Cockermouth and works in the Keswick Lakes and Dales Co-op, which was badly damaged in the floods, and when she saw the devastation in both towns she wanted to do something to help.

Sarah has walked 26 miles which is the return journey between the two towns on Monday, starting in Cockermouth with town mayor Julie Laidlaw, and Workington MP Sue Hayman. Keswick mayor Paul Titley also joined Sarah for the final miles of her walk into the town.

Sarah said: “I was devastated when I saw the mess in areas of Keswick and Cockermouth the day after the floods, and it has been difficult with the Co-op, which only had a small pop-up shop until the main store reopened this week. This is my way of putting a bit back.”

Keswick Lions are helping Miss Hayton with the fund-raising. Sponsorship forms will be available in the Co-op store in the coming week.
