Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we hear most often from our members and our answers to them.  If you can’t see the answer to your question here, please contact us.

How do I get a new share book?

Please order a new share book using the contact us form and we will send one out to you.

How do I update the balance in my share book?

Please send your share book with a short note stating that you’d like us to update your balance to; The Membership Team, Scotmid, Hillwood House, 2 Harvest Drive, Newbridge, EH28 8QJ.  You should allow two weeks for the book to be returned to you.

I’d like up to date membership information sent to me.

If it’s been a few years since you became a member of the Society, you might want some up to date information about Scotmid.  Use the contact us form to let us know and we will send an up to date membership pack out to you. Please allow two weeks for this.

Why don’t I have a membership card?

Scotmid does not operate a point or reward based card system like many other retailers do.  Scotmid members receive vouchers and special offers throughout the year with our membership magazine, Jigsaw.  Everyone receives the same regardless of how much they spend in store or how much is held in their share account. We are currently trialling a Member Benefit Card and will keep our members informed of how this trial is progressing – keep an eye on the Membership Notice Board for any developments.

I found an old share book, how can I check if the account still exists?

Because Scotmid is over 150 years old, this happens often.  Scotmid amalgamated with lots of co-operatives over the years so you might even have a book from another Scottish society.  Use the contact us form to contact the Membership Team and we can look into this for you.

How do I close a share account?

If you wish to close a share account, you should write a letter or email to; The Membership Team, Scotmid, Hillwood House, 2 Harvest Drive, Newbridge, EH28 8QJ ormembership@scotmid.com. Please include the share number of the account you wish to close and where possible, send the share account book to us.  You should allow two weeks for this to be processed.

If you are closing the account of someone who has passed away, please enclose a copy of the death certificate and contact details of an executor to send any monies owed to.  Money from account closures can be donated to Scotmid’s charity of the year.  Please state clearly in your correspondence if you’d like to do this.

Why can’t I spend my Scotmid vouchers in The Co-operative and vice versa?

Scotmid is an independent, Scottish co-operative and we are not owned by or part of The Co-operative.  We stock The Co-operative products because we buy from The Co-operative Retail Trading Group, which is owned by The Co-operative.

I lost my Member Benefit Card

Please contact the Membership Team using the contact us form.  Please note the Member Benefit Card is currently only a trial so we are not producing large batches of these on a regular basis.  You will be sent a new card when the next batch is produced and only if you have previously held a Scotmid Member Benefit card.

I need to change my address

Just email us your new address, you can use the contact us form or, you can call the Membership Team on 0131 334 4433.
